If you're buying FCP Studio, you drop iDVD. in this case, the "i" is
for idiots version. DVDSP is a much better environment to author in,
even for on off drafts.
FCP ST 2 is really looking for intel cpu's to make it run, I'd look
at your budget. Make sure to put lots of RAM in your box, but don't
buy ram from Apple. If you're handy, buy and install your own from a
reputable dealer like other World Computing (shameless plug for the
guys I use).

CPU: FCP ST2 is looking for intel. Faster clock and more cores =
faster renders or more layers and RT effects. Balance your work with
these assets. Install at least 4GB ram
Software assuming FCP ST2
OS & QT OSX.4.10 is current, QT 7.1.6 is current version
I/O video card Always best to preview out to a real monitor via HD/
SDI or SD-SDI or any analog connection that is appropriate. This is
your view of the rest of the world. Computer monitors hooked up to
your video card are not reliably what your audience may see on their
computer, TV or projector. AJA Video makes a wide array of
components that are firewire of PCI card based.
Storage
Volume size is based on your job/media management needs, and codec
bandwidth (ie DV-25 is 12 GB/hr, DV-100 is 60GB/hr)
connectivity (FW, SCSI, single / duallink Fiberchannel, SATA), based
on your codec and number of RT streams needed (ie, DV-25 = 3.6MB/m
per stream, DV-100 = 1GB/m)
data structure safety features (redundancy or parity), facility data
management skills, back up strategy)
Again, you need to interpret your facility's needs based on your
workflow. If you need more assistance, team up with a consultant who
can help you ana;yse these key features and plan for future growth.
